“…land is power, land is wealth, and, more importantly, land is about race and class”
Nick Estes, Lower Brule Sioux Tribe (US), academic, author, and activist

Stir to Action, with support from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s Emerging Futures programme, is pleased to publish this groundbreaking new report: Pathways to Land for BPOC (Black and people of colour)

The report focuses on issues the Pathways to Land project addresses, namely the barriers facing BPOC to access farmland and finance for it, and provides recommendations to challenge them. It explores key topics linked to financing and obtaining farmland in the UK and draws attention to learning from the US about BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) farmers' experiences of accessing land.

Pathways to Land is informed throughout by the lived experiences of BPOC farmers and community food organisers in England in relation to farming and securing land.

Report recommendations will be useful to those with finance and funding for farming, particularly those seeking to make farmland access more equitable.

Recommendations will also inform the design of the project’s autumn forums* on the 26th September and 7th October - click here for more information.

*BPOC participants will be remunerated for their time and travel for forum attendance if they would otherwise not be paid to attend, at a rate of £130 for the in-person forum + advance booked travel costs (if applicable) of up to £100, and £60 for a two hour online forum.
