In recent years, local councils have increasingly turned to community asset transfers as a strategic way to tackle financial challenges and empower local communities. With reduced funding from central government, progressive councils are often seeking innovative solutions to maintain public assets without the costs of direct management. By transferring ownership or management to community groups, councils can ensure that valuable local resources—such as parks, lidos, and community centres—not only continue to serve the public but also belong to local residents.

Although the process can be challenging for voluntary groups, and many councils lack clear policies to guide the transfer process, communities have been successful in leveraging this opportunity over the last decade. In this workshop, we'll explore national best practice, examine how communities have worked effectively with councils, and how to decide if it's the right option for your community group.

We offer sessions on a sliding scale. Please select the 'organisation' rate if you are funded by an organisation to attend this session.
