RFE: Professor Paolo Knill Interview
| Mat Callahan interviews Professor Paolo Knill |
Specialization is often viewed as a prerequisite for expertise. In order to do well at anything, a person must devote themselves exclusively to one discipline or area of study. This view is reinforced in academic structures and professional employment. Professor Knill has challenged many assumptions on which such views are based by developing an interdisciplinary approach to theory and practice.
Trained as a scientist, musician and educator, Professor Knill has woven together threads from all three disciplines to provide a new perspective for study, creative expression and engaging the world. This has led to provocative results, particularly in the processes of education wherein scientific method can be combined with the unleashing of the imagination to inspire learning. The interview today probes some of the problems, controversies, and achievements that have arisen in Professor Knill’s long life. As he will be celebrating his 80th birthday on July 21st, 2012, it is especially appropriate that this interview be made available now.
